Terms of Service
Last updated: September 9, 2026
1. Who we are
Pawlse is operated by a Bengal cat owner in Canada ("we", "us", or "our").
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and us, governing your use of the Pawlse mobile application and any related services (together, "Pawlse" or "the app"). By using Pawlse, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains what data Pawlse collects and how it is handled.
2. What Pawlse is
Pawlse is a record-keeping and information tool for cat owners. It helps you log feedings, weight, medications, symptoms and other everyday care; it estimates feeding portions and calorie targets; it stores health records and expenses; it sets reminders; and it offers AI features that read food labels and receipts, estimate a cat's breed from a photo, and answer questions about cat care.
Pawlse is an aid to your own record-keeping and judgement. It is not a medical device, a diagnostic tool, or a veterinary service.
3. Pawlse is not veterinary advice
Pawlse does not provide veterinary advice, diagnosis, treatment, or prescriptions, and is not a substitute for a qualified veterinarian.
Nothing in the app — including feeding plans, calorie and portion estimates, weight targets, care scores, breed estimates, food scores, symptom logs, reminders, or any answer from Ask Pawlse — is a veterinary opinion or a recommendation to take or withhold any treatment.
If your cat is unwell, injured, or you are worried about them, contact a veterinarian. In an emergency, contact an emergency veterinary clinic immediately. Do not delay seeking veterinary care because of anything you read in Pawlse.
You are solely responsible for decisions about your animal's health, diet and medication. Always confirm dosing, diet changes and treatment with your own veterinarian, who knows your cat.
4. AI features and their limitations
Some parts of Pawlse use artificial intelligence to save you time. When you scan a food label, a vet invoice or a receipt, or when you ask Pawlse a question, the content you provide is sent to a third-party AI provider so it can be read and understood. This applies to Ask Pawlse, the food and food-label scanners, the breed scanner, and the vet invoice and receipt scanners.
What is sent:
- Photos you choose to scan (food labels, vet invoices, your cat)
- Your cat's name, age, weight, breed and diet details
- Questions and notes you type into Ask Pawlse
Your own name, your email address and your account identifier are never sent. Our Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is sent in each case.
The provider uses this only to answer that one request. It is not used to train their models. Whether you use these features is up to you: without a scanned label, Pawlse estimates from your cat's own details instead.
You agree to this when you accept these Terms, and accepting them is a condition of using Pawlse. The in-app feedback form is not an AI feature: those messages are delivered to us by email and are not sent to the AI provider.
AI-generated content can be wrong. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or confidently mistaken. It may misread a label, misidentify a breed, misjudge a portion, or give an answer that does not apply to your cat. You must not rely on it as a sole source of truth, and you must not act on it in place of professional veterinary advice.
AI features depend on third-party services. They may be unavailable, rate-limited, or changed or withdrawn at any time.
5. Your account
Pawlse requires an account. You can work through the opening setup screens first, including a limited number of free scans, but an account is needed to carry on using the app, and it is what lets your records be restored on another device.
When you create one, you agree to provide accurate information, to keep your sign-in credentials secure, and to be responsible for activity that happens under your account.
An account is for one person. You may not share, sell or transfer it.
You can delete your account and its data at any time from within the app (Settings → Account & security). Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
6. Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to use Pawlse. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use Pawlse with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; see our Privacy Policy.
7. Subscriptions, billing and cancellation
Pawlse offers a paid subscription. Two plans are available:
- Monthly — billed monthly. No free trial.
- Annual — billed yearly, and includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
Prices are shown in the app before you subscribe, in your local currency, and the App Store is the authoritative source for what you are actually charged.
All payments are handled by Apple through your App Store account. We never see or process your payment details. The following apply:
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Your App Store account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- If you start the annual free trial and do not cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, it converts automatically into a paid annual subscription.
- You manage and cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings, not in Pawlse. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's own policies. We cannot issue, approve or refuse a refund for an App Store purchase. Refund requests go to Apple.
- Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
We may change subscription prices. A price change never affects a period you have already paid for, and Apple will notify you and seek your consent where required before a renewal at a new price.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Pawlse for anything unlawful, or in a way that harms an animal or a person.
- Copy, resell, sublicense, rent or redistribute Pawlse or its content.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
- Scrape, harvest or bulk-extract data from Pawlse or its servers.
- Interfere with the app's operation, bypass its usage limits or security measures, or attempt to access data belonging to another user.
- Submit content that infringes someone else's rights, or that is unlawful, abusive or deliberately misleading.
- Use Pawlse to build a competing product, or to train a machine-learning model.
9. Your content
The records, photos and text you put into Pawlse remain yours. You grant us only the limited permission needed to operate the app for you — to store your data, sync it between your devices, and pass the specific content you submit to the third-party services described in our Privacy Policy so that a feature can do what you asked of it.
We do not claim ownership of your content, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train AI models.
10. Availability and changes
We may add, change, suspend or remove features at any time, and we may stop offering Pawlse altogether. We will try to give reasonable notice of a significant change or discontinuation, and the app lets you export your records so you are not locked in.
Pawlse depends on your device, your network and third-party services, and we do not promise it will be available without interruption.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pawlse is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that Pawlse will be uninterrupted or error-free, that its estimates, calculations or AI outputs will be accurate or suitable for your cat, or that defects will be corrected.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of Pawlse.
- We are not liable for any harm to an animal, or for any veterinary or other cost, resulting from your reliance on information in Pawlse — including feeding, portion, weight or medication information, and including AI-generated content.
- Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Pawlse is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Pawlse in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or CAD $50.
Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law. In particular, if you are a consumer in Ontario, the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 gives you rights and remedies that cannot be waived or contracted out of, and nothing here is intended to do so. Sections 11 and 12 apply only to the extent the law allows. Some jurisdictions do not permit the exclusion of certain warranties or liabilities, in which case those exclusions do not apply to you.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Pawlse changes. When we do, we update the "last updated" date at the top, and we will notify you in the app if the change is significant. Your continued use of Pawlse after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and, if you wish, delete your account.
14. Termination
You may stop using Pawlse at any time, and you may delete your account from within the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, or if we are required to by law.
Sections 3, 9, 11, 12 and 15 survive termination.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, except that this does not deprive you of the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection law of the place where you live, or of the right to bring a claim in a small claims court where one is available to you.
